Public reading of Holocaust victims’ names will take place online

Pilsen residents can participate in the reading of the names of Holocaust victims on 8 April

The City of Pilsen has announced that there will be a virtual event commemorating the victims of the Holocaust Yom HaShoah 2021 on 8 April. From 14:00 to 17:00 CET, the Terezín Initiative Institute will hold a public reading of the names of the Holocaust victims.

Although this event generally takes place in person, this year it will be held virtually due to the COVID pandemic. On its website, the Terezín Initiative Institute explained that by reading the names of the “innocent victims of human hatred, violence, and injustice”, it ensures that they are not forgotten.

How can you participate?

This year, on the sixteenth commemorative event held by the Terezín Initiative Institute, there are several ways in which you can take part.

The first method is by participating in the live reading via Zoom. This will only be accessible for those who have registered before 21 March (or until the capacity is full). To register, fill out this short form or send an email to jomhasoa@terezinstudies.cz. After signing up for the live reading, you should receive detailed information regarding the reading process.

Alternatively, you can record a video or audio of yourself and share it to your social media platforms on 8 April using the hashtag #ctujmenanajomhasoa. In addition to this, you can also upload the footage or audio on the institute’s Facebook page. If you record your content and send it to the institute by 26 March, it can be featured in the live broadcast.

The final way to participate is by simply watching the live readings online and remembering the victims of the Holocaust.

Further details regarding the virtual event will be published on the institute’s website and social media platforms closer to the date.
