Even more, in the month of September they can use free bikes
Barakaldo’s municipal website reported yesterday that for the entirety of next month the local authorities have organized free workshops that will teach residents the importance of cycling and how to do it better. ’30 Días en Bici’ (30 Days on a Bike) is the name of the initiative that will be organized in 5 different neighbourhoods by means of a travelling tent.
’30 Días en Bici’ is previewed to take place on 5 consecutive Saturdays, as follows: 5 September (Herriko Plaza), 12 September (Plaza de Gurutzeta), 19 September (la plaza de San Vicente), 26 September (la plaza Lube) and 3 October (Plaza de Retuerto).
The way the workshops are going to work is by having expert monitors from Ziklobizi Eskola, set up a tent between the hours of 10:00 and 12:00 in the morning under which they will demonstrate the best practices in cycling. After that comes the practical part where for 90 minutes, participants will ride with the trainers on the streets.
“Likewise, the mandatory safety elements will be studied, as well as the importance of body language to warn of our movements in advance, a review of road signs and an analysis of possible conflictive points on the roads,” said Gorka Zubiaurre, Councillor for Open Government and Tourism in Barakaldo.
Those residents curious about the workshops but lacking a bike should not fear. Their local Municipality has a total of 55 bicycles, 40 of which can be used for the duration of the program, free of charge.
Keep in mind that workshops will be kept small with a maximum of 8 persons, over the age of 16. Signing up for participation and for the free bikes will be possible on the municipal website on a “first come, first serve” basis.
