The goal is to regularly connect Oradea with the Romanian capital, Bucharest

On 5 August, the City of Oradea in Romania announced it will team up with Bihor County to create an airline, taking passengers between that city and Bucharest every day. The president of the Bihor County Council Ilie Bolojan and the mayor of Oradea, Florin Birta announced the move, coupled with plans to expand the new airline with services to important European transport hubs as well.

Two regional leaders joining forces to promote mobility

The two regional leaders announced that a joint company will be established between Bihor County Council and Oradea Local Council by the end of September 2021 so it can offer flights as soon as March 2022.

The new company will mainly service routes to the Romanian capital, with President Bolojan explaining that they plan to purchase two 75-seat aircraft. The aircraft will then travel to the capital at least four times from Monday to Friday, and twice on the weekend.

He also promised the airline will offer at least one international flight to a major airport in Western Europe.

The president of the Bihor County Council also said that local companies in the Oradea industrial park have expressed their interest in the project and want to contribute to better connectivity.

Moreover, Bolojan and Mayor Birta want to attract local companies and financial support for the new airline. They are open to various offers, such as public subscriptions, sponsorships and donations, as they want to accommodate the various interested actors and identify the optimal solutions for their project.

Bolojan rounded up his presentation saying he was not worried about market rivalry to Oradea Airport from Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara or Bucharest, as he felt confident in the future of the project.

Furthermore, Oradea municipality will attempt to use this development to promote the city as a place for business and tourism in future flight destinations.
