Salzburg orders 15 new super modern trolleybuses

Salzburg orders 15 new super modern trolleybuses

If they are well-received, the city has the opportunity to order 27 more

The city of Salzburg chose the Swiss company Hess to supply it with brand new state-of-the-art trolleybuses. The agreement between the municipality and the company envisages the production of a total of 42 buses – 15 at first with the possibility of ordering 27 more by 2025. The price of each trolleybus comes at around 1 million euro per bus – the first batch will cost taxpayers a total of 15.3 million Euros.

The new additions to Salzburg’s public transport system will be accompanied by 8 to 10 kilometres of cables that will be supplying them with electricity. The buses will also be able to operate on a battery for parts of their planned routes. The battery will be recharging on its own while the bus is driving around connected to the cables. Inside the buses there will also be USB slots – charging stations for phones and other gadgets for people to use at their leisure. For the ease of the driver and the safety of the passengers, cameras are mounted all over the bus. They feed images to the driver at all times and help him see properly even in low-light conditions.

The first 15 buses should be delivered and operational by the first quarter of 2020.
