Schleswig-Holstein promotes digitisation projects in education

Five universities will benefit from the initiative with 330 million euros

In the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, a new programme is starting under the heading “Strengthening university teaching through digitisation”. The Foundation for Innovation in University Teaching will award funds totalling up to 330 million euros to universities over the next three years.

Five universities from Schleswig-Holstein will benefit: the European University of Flensburg, the Kiel University of Applied Sciences, the University of Lübeck, the Lübeck University of Music and the Nordakademie.

Digitalisation has become an integral part of education

Science Minister Karin Prien commented on the new funding: “Virtual teaching and learning and the development of innovative blended learning approaches are indispensable in a modern university landscape. The projects of the Schleswig-Holstein universities that have now been selected for funding provide important impulses for the innovation of our university landscape with their different topics."

The following projects have now been approved. The precise funding amounts will be disclosed during the course of the proceeding.

• European University Flensburg - Study as you are! - creating a requirement for barrier free education and an implementation method for barrier-sensitive university teaching
• Kiel University of Applied Sciences - Interdisciplinary cooperation as the key to social innovation
• University of Lübeck - Health teaching and learning in hybrid skills labs
• Lübeck University of Music as a member of the joint application - Network of Music Universities 4.0
• Kiel University of Applied Sciences as a member of a joint application - Enable study success through flexible competence development and teaching / learning scenarios
• NORDAKADEMIE gAG - University of the Economy as a member of the joint application “Flexibly combinable cross-reality laboratories in university teaching: future-oriented competence development for learning and working

With this first line of funding from the federal-state funding program “Innovation in University Teaching” - a follow-up programme to the Teaching Quality Pact - the universities are to receive additional support in trying out new, innovative ideas.

When selecting the projects, innovative strength and transfer options were among the central criteria. All project plans were subjected to a science-based process and the best of them were selected for funding. In addition to the federal government and the state ministries, the students were also part of the project selection committee.
