El verano en Sevilla puede ser muy caluroso y el aumento de las temperaturas debido al calentamiento global tampoco ayuda. Por eso, el Ayuntamiento contrata desde hace 30 años a una empresa privada para que coloque lonas de protección sobre las calles del casco histórico como una forma de dar la sombra que tanto necesita.
El lunes 21 de marzo, la web municipal ha anunciado que las autoridades han adjudicado un nuevo contrato a una empresa para los próximos tres años por un presupuesto de casi 810.000 euros. Hay algunos cambios, sin embargo, ya que hay un nuevo beneficiario y los toldos serán propiedad de la empresa. Esto significa que la Ciudad ya no tendrá que gastar recursos en el mantenimiento de las cubiertas protectoras.

Con el mayor periodo de vigencia (3 años), el Ayuntamiento pretende dar estabilidad a este servicio esencial, evitando así tener que sacarlo a concurso público cada año como viene siendo habitual hasta ahora.
Además del conjunto de calles del centro urbano, el Ayuntamiento de Sevilla, a través de su Departamento de Urbanismo y Medio Ambiente, ha adjudicado un nuevo contrato para instalar también marquesinas en la Avenida de la Constitución, arteria principal del casco antiguo. El presupuesto de este servicio asciende a 489.401 euros adicionales durante 3 años.
