On the 25th anniversary of the awarding of the first Blue Flag in Bulgaria, the Central Beach in Sozopol also received the world's highest established acknowledgment for eco friendly beaches. It received the award for the first time and was recognized as one of the places with crystal clear seawater.
The Blue Flag is the world's highest recognition for the cleanliness, safety and accessibility of beaches. In order to receive the “blue” recognition, the concessionaire had to meet 30 criteria in four categories related to safety, information, beach maintenance and water quality.
The criteria do not only concern the purity of the water, but also take into account the overall service that are offered, including excellent management, storage and development of the beach area. In recent years, more and more tourists pay special attention when looking for a place to rest and spend their vacation and explore whether the beach is certified as "Blue Flag". The big tour operators also make it a condition for beaches to be provided with a document for quality.
The Central Beach in Sozopol assures that it has been cleaned, leveled and dewormed. Rescue teams have been supervising the beachgoers since 1st June. A resuscitation point has also been established since the same date. Umbrellas and sunbeds are placed according to the safety instructions of the Bulgarian Ministry of Tourism.
The international jury of the Blue Flag Program takes into account the special situation in regards to the coronavirus which will inevitably affect the upcoming summer season. It emphasizes that those awarded the Blue Flag must at all times comply with national and international health guidelines and legislation related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In other words, that means that in order to retain the award, during the summer season and when they fully open to the public, beaches must strictly comply, not only to the criteria of the Blue Flag Program but also with all health measures that have been put in place.
