The plan has been in development since 2018 and features a thorough analysis on how Tartu can meet the challenges of the future
Tartu Energy 2030+, otherwise known as the new Tartu Energy and Climate Action Plan has been in development since 2018 with the goal of charting a course towards sustainable development in Tartu and to assess the impact of technological development and energy consumption on the environment in the city and its progress towards the future.
The common vision of the action plan, as described by the municipality is “Tartu is a smart energy developing community with good energy and a green pioneer”.
The main goal of the development of the action plan is precisely to adhere to this overall vision, by achieving six main objectives.
The work is expected to be finalized by the end of the year, but the city of Tartu showcased their progress at the Spark DEMO Business Village earlier this month.
Raimond Tamm, Deputy Mayor of Tartu, highlighted the great need for energy-efficient renovation of buildings, as they are the main energy consumers in the city. Furthermore he pointed to the increasing amount of car traffic in the city and the increase in emissions.
The plan envisions measures to tackle car-usage. Some of them include the restriction of car parking and the establishment of a more interconnected city.
The Tartu local authorities are keen to get feedback on their proposals and to hear new proposals from citizens. If you’re interested in taking part in the city’s energy transition head on over to the municipality’s website.
