Tartu is again offering its unwavering support to local sports, setting aside a total of EUR 772 970 this year in grants for the city's representative teams, competition organizers and sports projects.
As reported by the municipal website, four teams that represent Estonia’s second largest city will receive grants to the tune of EUR 287 000, an uptick of 5000 euro over last year’s support. The basketball team of the University of Tartu will get the largest share – EUR 100 000. BigBank Tartu volleyball team is next in line with EUR 80 000, followed by JK Tammeka football team (EUR 60 000) and Tartu Välk 494 hockey team (EUR 47 000). The football and hockey teams will receive respectively 3000 and 2000 euro more compared to their previous allowance.
EUR 260 000 will go towards the organization of major sports events. The largest recipient with EUR 97 000 is the non-profit organization Klubi Tartu Maratoni (Tartu Marathon Club), promoter of long-distance events such as Tartu Bicycle Marathon, Tartu Roller Skating Marathon and Tartu City Marathon. EUR 60 000 have been earmarked towards this year's WRC Rally Estonia, and EUR 30 000 for the Tour of Estonia cycle race and the Tartu 2024 Continental Cycling Team. EUR 14 000 have been set aside for Tartu Gymnastics Week and the Miss Valentine Grand Prix, with EUR 9 000 intended for FIS Rollerski World Cup stage.
This year, EUR 124 375 will be allocated to 101 small sporting projects. Besides, Tartu will support the organization of the Tartu City championships with EUR 21 830 and schools' cup matches with EUR 9 100. EUR 40 665 will be left in the reserve, from which new applications received during the year can be financed.
