À cet égard, la Ville de Bruxelles a élaboré un plan pour l'été il y a quinze ans, afin d'aider les personnes en situation d'isolement ou en situation de précarité. Ainsi, le Plan de Canicule fonctionne chaque année depuis 2005 et est géré par le CPAS de la Ville (Centre Public d’Action Sociale) avec le soutien de la municipalité et de la police.
Le plan est donc activé dès que la température atteint 28 degrés Celsius. Une fois cette condition remplie, les équipes des Maisons de quartier entament un processus régulier de contact avec les participants inscrits afin de vérifier s’ils vont bien et dans quelles conditions ils vivent. De plus, si nécessaire, ils distribueront d’eau.
Les personnes âgées, sans emploi, handicapées, qui se sentent isolées ou qui souffrent de toute forme de discrimination peuvent s’inscrire en appelant le 0800 35 550 gratuitement pendant les heures de bureau. Les personnes malentendantes ou qui éprouvent des difficultés à se manifester oralement peuvent envoyer un fax au 02 218 32 48 ou un e-mail à info@lmdq.be.
