Located at the foot of the 5-million-year-old Ság Hill, a volcanic hill near Celldömölk, Kemenes Volcano Park is Hungary’s first volcanology centre. Completed with EU financing, it tells the story of Ság Hill and provides information on volcanic activity and major geological changes. Visitors have the opportunity to learn about such events in Hungary, elsewhere on Earth and on other planets. They also find out how natural disasters caused by volcanoes can be forecast.
The interior of the park’s visitor centre is designed to describe the different phases of an eruption. It follows the evolutionary process of magma, with visitors passing through several themed rooms. It has 11 themed exhibition rooms. The investments are of over €1.7 million, 85% from the EU.
