The European Citizens' Prize ceremony in Bulgaria was officially held today
The official award ceremony of the European Citizen Prize for 2020 and 2021 took place on 22 October in Sofia. Boyan Tomov, Chairman of "Euro Advance" Association and founder of "TheMayor.EU – the European Portal for Cities and Citizens", attended the official ceremony.
This morning, in the European Parliament Office in Bulgaria, the winners of the European Citizen Prize from this and last year received their awards. The ceremony was held in compliance with the restrictive measures in connection with COVID-19 and was officially opened by Teodor Stoychev, Head of the Office. The awards were presented by Tsvetelina Penkova, Member of the European Parliament (S&D) and the National Jury for 2020.
On behalf of the Euro Advance Association, the award was given to the chairman Boyan Tomov. The association was honored in July for TheMayor.EU project, which for four years has been promoting the exchange of good practices by local governments, the co-operation between EU cities and institutions, facilitating transparency and effective communication with citizens.
Today's ceremony was double, as the winners from Bulgaria for 2020 were awarded as well: "Medea" of the Association "Legal Art Center" and "I see through music" of the Foundation "Music for Bulgaria".
The Bulgarian laureates of the European Citizen Prize for 2020 and 2021 received their awards from Tsvetelina Penkova, Member of the EP and the National Jury for 2020, and Teodor Stoychev, Head of the EP Office in Bulgaria
In 2017, Euro Advance Association launched the initiative "TheMayor.EU - European Portal for Cities and Citizens" with ambitions to improve understanding between citizens of the European Union, local authorities and EU institutions; to stimulate the exchange of good practices and experience between the authorities in Europe; to make efforts for modern, transparent and efficient urban governance more visible; and to increase trust in decision-making institutions.
The European Citizens' Prize is given by the European Parliament to citizens, groups, associations or organizations for their projects that facilitate cooperation and understanding in the EU and to promote European values. The association was selected amongst other projects and nominated by a national jury. Then, it was announced the winner by an 11-member European jury, including representatives of the European Parliament, prominent public figures and European civil and youth organizations.
In addition to the award ceremony in Bulgaria, an official ceremony will take place at the European Parliament in Brussels on 9 November. It will bring together laureates from all EU countries for this and last year, in the presence of MEPs and prominent figures in European public life.
