It is located on the roof of the Shakespeare theatre
Gdansk announced the successful return of one of its most-awaited outdoor events. The 5th edition of the outdoor cinema on the roof of the Shakespeare Theatre is set to begin on Wednesday, 24 June. It is renowned as the most beautiful cinema in the Polish city.
The programme, explain the city authorities, includes ten excellent movies, starting with the director's version of the Oscar-winning Parasite, in black and white. The shows take place on Wednesdays and selected Thursdays between 24 June and 27 August.
The program was drafted respecting the principle developed in previous editions with most interesting films from the recent years, which have won awards and distinctions at the most important world film festivals such as Berlinale, Cannes or Venice. There will also be movies of a big city character, which take place in foreign metropolises.
The organisers commit to taking all necessary sanitary measures to ensure a wonderful experience, without the risk of contracting COVID-19. This includes the reduction of places available in half and their placement at a safe distance from one another. This means that the tickets that can be purchased online do not exceed 150 tickets available for each movie.
The first edition of the rooftop cinema took place five years ago, inspired by the popular projections on the roofs of New York buildings. This year just like with many events, the organisation of the outdoor cinema was uncertain, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the related restrictions applied to social gatherings. However, open-air events are considered safer for visitors, which panned out well for both organisers and cinema enthusiasts.
The rooftop cinema project is implemented by Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre acting as the main partner and is co-financed by the city of Gdansk.
