Un projet de rénovation vise à transformer les bains municipaux de Strasbourg en un centre thermal de nouvelle génération. Choisi à l’unanimité le 14 janvier, l’ambitieux projet de la ville française devrait débuter cet automne et se terminer d’ici à la fin de 2021.
Le nouveau projet est basé sur des constructions existantes, qui seront complémentées par une piscine extérieure et une zone d’activités partagée pour des événements, des concerts, des projections de films, installés à l’arrière du bâtiment, à la place du parking. Ce dernier sera entouré d'un jardin de fraîcheur. En ce qui concerne les activités aquatiques, une connexion sera créée entre les deux piscines carrelées. Un espace bien-être permettra de découvrir le bain romain restauré, un jacuzzi, un sauna, un hammam et la piscine extérieure ouverte toute l'année. En outre, un espace spa dédié sera construit et les installations rénovées abriteront des activités de gymnastique et de fitness, ainsi qu'un centre de diététique.
En plus, la dimension sociale des bains tels qu'ils ont été conçus en 1908 par l'architecte Fritz Beblo n'est pas négligée : par conséquent les douches publiques seront préservées. Les heures d’ouverture seront elles aussi multipliées par deux (de 10h à 21h, 7 jours sur 7).
Le projet porté par Eiffage Construction regroupe l'architecte des monuments historiques François Chatillon, la société d'architecture TNA et le spécialiste de l'ingénierie Quadriplus. Une fois les travaux terminés, Véolia et Equalia assureront la gestion technique et commerciale du bâtiment rénové.
La rénovation des thermes municipaux dont la gestion de projet est confiée à l'entreprise publique locale Deux-Rives (détenue par la Ville et l'Eurométropole) s'élève à environ 33 millions d'euros. Selon Alain Fontanel, premier adjoint au maire, le projet lauréat réconcilie "accès pour tous, qualité du patrimoine et ouverture sur le quartier".
