The state of emergency in the Czech Republic has ended

The night curfews and restrictions on movement no longer apply

As of Monday 12 April, the declared state of emergency in the Czech Republic has ended. This means that the night curfew and the ban on leaving one’s district without a reason no longer apply. Now, the government of the Czech Republic has listed the new and approved series of emergency measures that have been outlined by the Ministry of Health.

What are the new measures in Czechia?

While shopping centres and most non-essential retail establishments will remain shut, several stores will be able to open their doors once again. Some of these include:

  • Locksmiths
  • Children’s clothing and footwear stores
  • Laundry and dry-cleaning services
  • Stationery stores
  • Establishments selling reverential goods
  • Funeral services

In addition to this, the government reported that the Ministry of Health will prohibit the presence of the public in catering establishments. However, it must be noted that these measures do not apply to establishments serving staff meals, meals for health and social service providers, school employees and students, etc. Taking this further, accommodation establishments (i.e. hotels) will also be able to serve their guests between 06:00 and 21:59.

Schools will also partially reopen as some students will be able to return to schools and kindergartens. Concerts, theatres, films, and other cultural events will continue to be prohibited to the public.

However, rehearsals and performances will be allowed if there are no spectators and artists comply with social distancing rules. Zoos and botanical gardens will be open to the public as long as they operate outdoors and fill only 20% of their capacity.

Lastly, on the website of the Ministry of Health, it is reported that weddings and funerals will be able to take place if the number of guests does not exceed 15.
