En 2017, la ville de Luxembourg a introduit le système VR Timetravel de la société Urban Timetravel et le Service des technologies de l’information et de la communication de la Ville en collaboration avec les Musées de la Ville et le soutien du Service des autobus. Après la phase de test de 6 mois, le projet entrera dans la phase d'évaluation, après quoi une extension éventuelle au-delà du quartier Pfaffenthal sera décidée. Ainsi, à partir du 2 décembre chaque dimanche des visites guidées pour le public et des visites hebdomadaires pour les entreprises seront organisées.
Un guide professionnel emmènera les touristes à pied du centre-ville à Muerbelsmillen - l’ancienne moutarderie et les aidera à découvrir divers sites et bâtiments à l’aide d’éléments de réalité augmentée montrant des images historiques, des explications et d’autres effets.
À Pfaffenthal, les visiteurs embarqueront dans un voyage de 2 km avec le bus Timetravel, où ils seront renvoyés au XIXe siècle avec des lunettes 3D. Dans la Ville-Haute le voyage se terminera, permettant de profiter du paysage pittoresque.
Les visites auront lieu tous les dimanches entre 13h30 et 14h30 pour un maximum de 5 personnes et un coût de 15 euros par adulte et 10 par adolescent de plus de 8 ans.
La nouvelle initiative s'inscrit dans une stratégie plus large de la Ville de Luxembourg visant à adopter un mode de vie et une gouvernance plus intelligents, grâce à la participation interactive des citoyens et à leur information permanente.
