La instalación, que será operada por Iberdrola, entrará en servicio en noviembre
A principios de esta semana, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona anunció que había firmado un contrato con la multinacional de suministro eléctrico Ibedrola para la creación de una planta de producción de hidrógeno renovable, la primera de este tipo en la esfera pública en España. Próximamente se iniciará la construcción en la Zona Franca sobre una parcela de 5000 metros cuadrados que había sido arrendada al Consorcio de Zonas Francas de la capital catalana.
El hidrógeno producido en la planta se utilizará para alimentar los nuevos autobuses de pila de combustible que entrarán en servicio de TMB en algún momento de 2022.
La planta es parte de la ambición de que tanto el operador de transporte público como la empresa de servicios eléctricos se muevan hacia el ámbito de las fuentes de energía renovable, ya que su dirección ve que este es el futuro de cero emisiones. La escala del proyecto es lo suficientemente grande como para dar cabida a eventualidades, como no solo la recarga de los autobuses públicos de Barcelona sino también de otros vehículos eléctricos o instalaciones industriales que utilicen este tipo de tecnología innovadora.
En cuanto a los buses de pila de combustible que operarán gracias a la existencia de dicha planta, se informó que los primeros ocho de estos ya fueron adquiridos y se espera que lleguen en noviembre de este año antes de entrar en operación el próximo año.
Se dice que el consumo de combustible de hidrógeno de dichos autobuses es de 160 kilos por día y se espera que el número de vehículos alcance los 60.
Los líderes de TMB e Iberdrola se mostraron optimistas de que esta iniciativa convierta a Cataluña y España en referentes de la economía mundial del hidrógeno renovable.
