The main objective of the project is to develop an integrated low cost (software and hardware) based on drones for mapping of marine dump
The use of drones for detection, search and autonomous inspection of coastal hills will be used by the Municipality of Leiria as part of a scientific project to combat pollution from the sea. The project is set to begin in October. The main objective of the project is to develop an integrated low cost (software and hardware) based on drones for mapping of marine dump. The target area for development and testing is the area between Pedrogão beach and Figueira da Foz, in three beaches with clear levels of marine pollution and urbanization pressures.
The municipality of Leiria joined the UAS4LITTER project, funded by the Science and Technology Foundation, developed by researchers from INESC Coimbra, UC-MARE and NOVA.ID_MARE research centers, one of which belongs to the Planning Division. The municipality clarifies that the results of the UAS4Litter project will be translated into practical guidance for mapping and surveillance of coastal coastal waters for a wide range of end users that are crucial for mitigating marine pollution.
