The capital of Malta was officially inaugurated European Capital of Culture in a ceremony in the precense of Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport. He officially handed the European Capital of Culture title to Valletta 2018 Foundation Chairman - Jason Micallef.
The ceremony was attended by Valletta Mayor Alexiei Dingli, who spoke about the city`s journey towards this historic moment. During the ceremony the Valletta 2018’s 365-day Cultural Programme was presented. All the speakers marked 2018 as an opportunity for Malta to show off its heritage on a European and global level.
