Vilnius -first Lithuanian municipality to join Diversity Charter

The Lithuanian Diversity Charter aims to ensure equal opportunities for everyone

Last week, Vilnius municipality became the first municipality in Lithuania to sign the Lithuanian Diversity Charter. By signing the document and joining the initiative, the capital has publicly committed itself to ensuring equal opportunities for everyone, regardless of their age, gender, sexual orientation, race, disability, ethnicity, nationality, gender identity or religion. The goal that the administration is setting for itself is to ensure a working environment which promotes, respects and recognizes the diversity of the staff that works there and appreciates the differences of every one of its members.

The charter was signed by the municipality’s Director of Administration Povilas Poderskis who stated that “The City of Vilnius and its opportunities must be open to all, and by joining the Diversity Charter we are committed to promoting a group of municipal companies with a total staff of around 30,000 to contribute to this initiative. A safe work environment enables employees to work more productively, ensures better distribution of working time and provides quality services to residents. This decision is important not only for the employees of the Municipality, but also for our clients - the citizens of the city”.

Vilnius joining the Charter is important as it now ranks among important businesses and companies who are already taking part – such as Swedbank, Lithuanian International Airports and Western Union Processing Lithuania. The city sends a positive signal to it citizens that everyone should feel welcome and at home in Vilnius.
