The first ever fully-electric ferry - Älvsnabben 4 - in the city of Gothenburg will be able to complete longer, multi-stop routes along the river, and incorporate quick charging capabilities. The initiative is part of the ElectriCity project, collaboration between industry, academia and local government, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 90% by 2035.
The project is set to get underway early next year. The new Volvo Penta powered ferry system will connect the city, which straddles the Göta River. The current plan is for the refit to start in the beginning of 2020. The ferry is then expected to enter commercial service by the end of 2020.
