Never too early to fall in love with soft mobility
Tartu’s municipal website reported that on Saturday, 28 May, the Tartu Rattaralli children’s bicycle festival is set to take place after taking an unscheduled break for the past two years due to COVID. The organizers claim that this is the largest event of its kind in the whole world considering the number of young participants.
The start of the races will be given on Turu Street at 11:00 am (Estonian time). Car traffic will naturally be blocked in the participating streets during the event.
The children’s bike races precede the now-traditional bike marathon, the Tartu Cycling Rally, which will be held for the 41st time this year. The kids’ edition aims to inspire passion and joy for cycling from an early age.
The range of children’s race distances is 500 m and 1 km, which runs along Turu Street, and the 5 km distance, which goes along Teguri, Tähe and Riga Streets. For the shortest distance, a child guardian is also allowed on the track. The three races are meant to mirror the adult versions of 27, 60 and 128 kilometres, respectively.
There are great activities for the whole family during the children's rally. The Estonian Sports and Olympic Museum and trampolines for children are on site. At the end of the event, there will be a raffle between all participants, where prizes will be awarded from partners.
The participation fee for the event is 3 euros. The organizing team recommends that participants pre-register on the Tartu Marathon website, but the letter can also be posted on the morning of the event. It is worth arriving early in the morning of the driving day.
