Kai Wegner

Kai Wegner was born on 15 September 1972 and has been a part of German politics since 2005. He entered the field as a member of the Bundestag for the Christian Democratic Union and served in the German Federal Parliament until 2021.

From 2005 to 2013, he was part of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy before moving to the Committee on Building, Housing, Urban Development and Local Government and the Committee on the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. He has been the CDU parliamentary group’s spokesperson on housing since 2018.

In 2019, he became the chairman of the CDU in Berlin and ran for mayor unsuccessfully in 2021. He became the mayor of Berlin in 2023, after a re-run of the local election, through a coalition with the former opposition, the Social Democratic Party. He is the first CDU Mayor of Berlin since 2001.
