István Tarlós

István Tarlós was born in 1948 in the capital city of Budapest. He holds a Masters degree from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

He has worked in the construction industry as an investor and contractor for 15 years. In 1990, he founded his own architectural studio.

His political career began in 1989 when he became a member of the Alliance of Free Democrats. A few years later he left the union and became independent.

In 2010 he participated as an independent candidate in the mayoral elections. In 2014 his second term began.

His development programme is divided into several parts - Long-term, Integrated, Thematic, Smart Budapest and Transport Strategy. Long-term development includes changes in infrastructure-regulating institutions, efficient utilization of EU funds, the development of regional transport, and the strengthening of the economic role of Budapest in Europe.

The Thematic programme includes the development of the area around the Danube and the creation of new jobs. Smart Budapest includes the implementation of smart city solutions, with a focus on urban transport, creating more connections, investing in new vehicles and better services.
