Nils Ušakovs

Mayor of Riga is Nils Ušakovs. He was born in 1976 in the capital. In 1999 he received a bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Latvia. Later, he lived and studied in Denmark, where he obtained a Master's degree in Economics and European Integration from the University of Southern Denmark. He worked as a journalist until 2005 in different media. His political career began the same year as a member of the Social Democratic Party "Concord". Soon after, he was elected a leader. In 2009 he won the elections for mayor of Riga. Focus of his program is improving the economic stability of the city, supporting the establishment and development of businesses and attracting new investors. Another priority is the development of high-quality business infrastructure.
