Ioannina provides tablets to local students to facilitate distance leaning

Local authorities want to offer their constituents the best educational opportunities they can

The Greek city of Ioannina is making sure that local children are fully supported as they make use of their educational opportunities by approving a transfer of funds to numerous schools that will be used for the purchase of new tablets. These devices are meant for those children who lack other tools and means to connect and are essential for their education.

Making sure that everyone makes full use of the system

The Mayor of Ioannina, Moses Elisaf, pointed out that the Municipality fully meets the needs of the student population and covers the costs for the necessary equipment of e-learning, proving, without a hint of populism, that ensuring that education in the best conditions is its main priority.

He further reiterated his belief that after all, the interest for the educational community is reflected in the constant effort to upgrade the school units and solve problems.

Thus, the School Committee of Primary Education decided to grant schools an additional amount of 19,000 euros in order to supply 190 tablets, as requested by the relevant documents of the Regional Directorate of Education. Some 15,000 euros were allocated by the Ioannina Secondary Education School Committee.

According to the President of the School Committee Filio Noka-Zarahi, "the Board of Directors of the Unified School Committee for Secondary Education in collaboration with the Mayor of Ioannina and the competent bodies of Education, assessing the need to strengthen distance education and after a unanimous decision, have granted the amount of 15,000 euros for the supply of school equipment in order to meet the distance learning needs of students. The funds will be deposited to the school coffers in order to strengthen their current circumstances which are currently adversely affected…

On behalf of the members of the School Committee we wish everyone a Merry Christmas with the hope that the students reunite with their teachers and once again fill their schools with smiles and love.”
