Green pass rules are starting to affect the domain of public transport in Italy

The Italian government has updated the rules regarding the validity and scope of the Green Pass in the country. This time the amendments affect the transportation sector showing an increased desire by the authorities to institute the application of the certificate in as many areas of daily life as possible.

Different sectors of the transportation industry will be affected

The new ordinance has set some new standards with regard to the operations of the public transport sector.

In local public transit, passengers will be able to enter also from the front door of the vehicle but there will need to be a protective divider installed behind the driver. The companies must also carry out sanitation of vehicles once a day.

In large railway hubs (Milano Centrale, Roma Termini, Firenze Santa Maria Novella), and where possible also in the other stations, the Green Pass must be checked preferably before boarding the vehicle. Otherwise, the check can be carried out by the on-board staff together with the ticket verification.

It is also envisaged that, in the event of the presence of passengers with COVID-19 symptoms, the health authorities and the railway police may decide, having assessed the conditions, to stop the train in order to proceed with emergency interventions or to provide for specifically dedicated spaces. The company will then have to sanitize the convoy concerned before putting it back into operation.

For taxis, the rear seats must not be occupied by more than two passengers if they are not members of the same family unit. Inside the vehicles, where possible, dividers should be installed between the driver and passenger seats.
