The capital have requested a derogation to open the shopping centres for more hours
This year 24th and 31st of December fall on Sundays, so shops will be open until 1pm according the law. Nevertheless, more than 20 communes and the association of hairdressers have requested a change of the rule. Due to this, the Economy Ministry approved extensions of working hours for both days until 4pm.
All major shopping centers are amongst the municipalities that have received a derogation. These include Luxembourg City, Esch-sur-Alzette, Mersch, Ettelbrück, Diekirch, Clervaux and Weiswampach. Several small communes have applied only for December 24.
The major shopping places in Luxembourg will open from 8am to 4pm on December 24 and 31.
