Nice est la dernière ville à rejoindre le réseau des Villes et pays d'art et d'histoire en France, annoncent de la Ville. Le 20 juin, sa candidature a été présentée devant le Conseil national des « Villes et Pays d'Art et d'Histoire » au Ministère de la Culture à Paris et a été approuvée. A cette occasion, le maire et président de la Côte d’Azur Métropole, M. Christian Estrosi, a exprimé sa gratitude aux personnes et aux services municipaux qui ont contribué à la candidature réussie. Il a souligné l'engagement de Nice dans les domaines du développement culturel, de la valorisation du patrimoine et de la gestion urbaine responsable. En outre, Estrosi a expliqué que cette reconnaissance faisait partie d'un effort plus vaste visant à inclure Nice dans le patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO en tant que «Nice, Ville de Riviera». En fait, Nice a déjà été labélisée “Ville d’Art”, entre 1969 et 1997.
Le label, décerné par le Ministre de la Culture Français, a été attribué à 195 villes et territoires jusqu’à mai 2019. Il est décerné aux communes ou groupes de communes qui s’emploient activement à sensibiliser le public à l’importance de la culture, de l’architecture et du style de vie. Il repose sur un partenariat entre l'État et les autorités locales et est renouvelable tous les six ans.
