Apple is going to invest 1 billion euros in Munich

Under the form of a new European Silicon Design Centre in the Bavarian city

Apple will invest 1 billion euros in a new tech facility in Munich. The German city is already Apple’s largest engineering hub in Europe, but now the multinational company will focus on 5G and future wireless technologies.

The building will be located in central Munich, taking up more than 30,000 square meters. The construction is going to support the use of local materials that will fit into both the architectural design and the design of the gardens. In this way, Munich demonstrates itself as a city that integrates heritage, humanity, and innovation.

A building powered by 100% renewable energy

The new building is scheduled to be ready for the second part of 2022 and Apple employees will be able to move in by then. The facility will run entirely on 100 percent renewable energy, which is distinctive mark for all Apple offices globally. It will also receive a LEED Gold certification, indicating the level of sustainability and environmental compatibility of the construction.

The number of staff working for Apple in Germany is 4 000, and 1 500 of them are engineers divided among 7 offices in the city. The new building will try to bring them all together under one roof.

Munich has been a home to Apple for four decades, and we’re grateful to this community and to Germany for being a part of our journey.” 

Work efforts in the new Munich facility will concentrate on improving the operations of most Apple signature products, such as iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac with the M1 chip.
