Bridging the digital gap in cities: the first EUDIGIT e-book is out!

Six EU cities share innovative ways to involve young people in digitalisation and promote the sense of European citizenship

The first seminar of the EUDIGIT – European Digital Citizens project might be behind us, but its success is here to stay – of course, in a digital way.  If you have missed the event in February but are eager to learn how leading EU cities are fighting the digital divide experienced by young people, this free e-book is your chance.

An overview of best practices

TheMayor.EU has just released the first EUDIGIT e-book, presenting an overview of the successful initiatives, implemented by the cities of Marseille, Genoa, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Cluj-Napoca and Varna in the field of the digital divide, citizenship and youth. You will learn more about the ways they analysed young people’s needs, ensured accessibility and equal opportunities, and stimulated active citizen participation, among other things.

You will also get the chance to learn more about the EU’s state of play first-hand. In a detailed Interview Ms Simona Petkova, Policy Assistant at Digital Education Unit at the European Commission speaks about the objectives of the Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027 and the process behind its preparation.

Finally, you will discover the challenges that young people in these cities are facing and how they see their resolution. The main findings from two international workshops with youngsters summarise the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on education and whether the next generations see a link between civic engagement and the digital divide.

The EUDIGIT agenda

“The youth, the digital divide and citizenship” was the first of a series of six seminars under the EUDIGIT – European Digital Citizens initiative. The project, funded by the Europe for Citizens programme, has set as objectives the bridging of the digital gap in cities, strengthening the sense of EU citizenship and co-building digital policies with citizens.

The event took place on 25-26 February, in a digital format, organised by the City of Varna. Detailed records and videos are available on the project website.
