Cannes accueillera très prochainement le premier musée sous-marin en France et en Méditerranée. À la suite de la réunion du conseil local dans la ville française du 18 novembre, il a été annoncé qu'un nouvel éco musée se développera au sud de l'île Sainte-Marguerite d'ici la fin de l'année prochaine.
Le musée comprendra six œuvres d'art submergés du sculpteur sous-marin anglais de renommée mondiale Jason deCaires Taylor. Chacun d'eux pèsera huit tonnes et fera deux mètres de haut. Ensemble, ils devraient couvrir une superficie de 54 mètres carrés.
Ce projet n’est pas le premier de ce type pour l’artiste, engagé dans la protection de l’environnement, qui est responsable de la création de plus de mille sculptures d’eau. En 2006, Jason deCaires Taylor a ouvert le premier musée pareil dans la baie de Molinere. Plus tôt en novembre, il avait attiré l'attention des médias avec la composition de The Pride of Brexit, consistant de trois lions agonisant lavés à la mer, ce qui illustrerait l'état de la Grande-Bretagne au cours des trois dernières années.

Cette nouvelle forme d'art se mêle à l'esthétique traditionnelle, dans le but de sensibiliser à la santé au sens large. Ainsi, les musées sous-marins deCaires Taylor apparaissent partout dans le monde, reflétant les problèmes mondiaux qui affectent les biosphères sous-marines. Bien que les groupes de sculptures puissent être conceptuellement considérés comme un musée, chaque pièce individuelle transmet son propre message.
Le musée sous-marin est ainsi bien plus qu’une expression artistique transformée en une attraction touristique pour les plongeurs et les photographes sous-marins. Les gros objets immergés en général, que ce soit intentionnellement ou non, peuvent se transformer en récifs artificiels et donner des bases solides à la naissance des coraux et des poissons. De cette façon, ils aident à restaurer les écosystèmes sous-marins où cela est le plus nécessaire.
