Europe’s largest bicycle trade show is coming to the heart of the city
Eurobike, one of the world's leading trade fairs for everything bicycle-related, is coming to Frankfurt. The highly regarded show’s next edition will be held from 13 to 17 July 2022. It is organised by a joint company between Messe Frankfurt and the previous organizer, Messe Friedrichshafen - both of which are event centres.
The city of Frankfurt is probably the most accessible European city, considering its geographic location, giant airport and train station. Now, the authorities also want to turn it into Europe's cycling hotspot.
Instead of holding the event in a warehouse in the outskirts of Friedrichshafen, next year’s edition will be held in the heart of Frankfurt where the public, retailers and industrial stakeholders will have the chance to test drive and relish the continent’s new green future on wheels.
The concept of Eurobike is changing, together with EU’s policies on climate change and sustainable modes of transportation.
According to the Lord Mayor of Frankfurt Peter Feldmann, in 2025 climate-related projects are expected to account for half of EIB activities. He was enthusiastic about the contract for Frankfurt, stating that “Eurobike will be the lighthouse in a city that is preparing to put the bike at the centre of the transport policy debate. I cannot imagine a more authentic location".
Feldmann especially thanked his Friedrichshafen colleague Mayor Brand for the trusting cooperation and discussions in the run-up to the spectacular trade fair deal. The basis is a joint venture between the exhibition companies in both cities.
The reason for the move is that during this year’s event more than 70,000 visitors came in the span of five days, reaching the location’s capacity limit. The change of venues should now make further attendance growth possible.
The joint venture between the two companies is called “fairnamic GmbH” and it serves to combine their competencies. Messe Frankfurt will use its massive resources to popularise and support joint ventures on a global scale, whereas Messe Friedrichshafen will use its know-how to provide unique access to facilities, such as the local airport.
This premier international trade fair has taken place, every year since 1991, at the beginning of September and, together with Interbike (Las Vegas) and Taipei Cycle Show (Taiwan), is one of the world's largest trade shows in the bicycle sector.
