Learn German in Vienna’s parks over the summer

The Austrian capital has been hosting free German courses in its parks since 2008

“Deutsch im Park” or “German in the park” is an initiative that can trace its roots all the way back to 2008. It entails free courses in the German language 3 hours a day, 3 days per week in the span of a bit less than a month.  The goal of the initiative is for people to not be afraid to come learn the local language, and to not have an excuse for not doing it – thus, no registration is required for the activities, all you need to do is come on over to one of the designated parks, sit down and participate.

The initiative is spread throughout four parks in the Austrian capital - Bruno-Kreisky-Park, Arthaberpark, Steinbauer Park and Hofferplatz. Until August there will be a course in each one of these four locations. The one in Bruno-Kreisky-Park is currently underway. The other courses have to following timetable:

2 July, at 14:00 o’clock at Arthaberpark every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

1 July, at 14:30 o’clock at Steinbauer Park every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday

8 July at 10:00 o’clock at Hofferplatz, every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday

Every course will be attended by two German language teachers as well as someone specialized in literacy in German. Thanks to their efforts, the free courses will be able to fit the needs of the participants. They will even be going around the parks inviting people to come and join the initiative and practice their German with professionals, native speakers and foreigners alike.
