El 7 de junio, Begoña Villacís, teniente de alcalde de Madrid, acudió al distrito de Casa de Campo para presentar los pabellones que albergarán el que está previsto que se convierta en el Campus de Videojuegos más grande de Europa. Previsto para entrar en pleno funcionamiento en 2022, este clúster empresarial apostará por la rentabilidad, la innovación y el atractivo del sector del entretenimiento de alta tecnología con el objetivo de convertir a la capital española en un centro de referencia en el continente.
El Ayuntamiento, a través de la Concejalía de Economía, Innovación y Empleo, está impulsando este nuevo proyecto económico y laboral con una visión de incentivar la creación de nuevas empresas y puestos de trabajo orientados a la promoción del sector a nivel local. La plataforma de apoyo a esta industria será el clúster que se presentó, y que estará formado, inicialmente, por 42 grandes empresas, desarrolladores y equipos del sector del juego.
La vicealcaldesa ha asegurado que el Ayuntamiento contribuirá "a crear una industria de los videojuegos fuerte" y ha recordado que Madrid concentra el 33% de la facturación de este sector en España, al tiempo que ha explicado que cuando se trata de videojuegos se suelen "banalizar e incluso estigmatizar”, ya que solo se considera la parte del consumo de ciertos juegos. Sin embargo, ha reiterado que este sector también fomenta grandes valores como “la creatividad, la educación, la generosidad, la comunicación y la globalización”.
Por su parte, el delegado de Economía, Innovación y Empleo de la ciudad, Miguel Ángel Redondo, ha explicado la importancia de este sector en cifras respecto a los datos de empleo y el impacto del sector en la economía: “En España, el sector de los videojuegos genera más de 9.000 empleos directos y más de 23.000 indirectos. El impacto directo en la economía es de 3.570 millones de euros”.
