Meet me on the beach in Vilnius

Meet me on the beach in Vilnius

The Lithuanian capital is becoming a summer resort this year

As befits a city known for imaginative, award-winning campaigns such as Vilnius - the G-spot of Europe’, the Lithuanian capital continues to struggle creatively with the repercussions of the corona crisis. Although the Baltic Sea is 312 km away, Vilnius will soon have its own sandy beach in the very heart of the city - on Lukiskes Square.

Beach loungers, umbrellas, a changing cubicle, a beach volleyball court and even a “sea view”, albeit on a screen - all this is designed to create the impression of a summer resort in the stone jungles of the Lithuanian capital.

“South European resorts are not open, and the beaches of the Baltic Sea will be crowded this year, so we are in a hurry to help residents and guests of the capital - we invite them to relax in Vilnius as Vilnius will become a resort this summer, starting from tomorrow said the Mayor of Vilnius Remigijus Šimasius, quoted by LRT.

The city is busy equipping the beach in Lukiskes Square and for this purpose, about 300 cubic metres of sand is used. The beach in the square will operate all summer long.

Next to it, by the end of July, a large screen will appear. Every evening films, TV shows and concerts will be projected on it, while in the afternoons it will display views of the Baltic Sea.

Among the safest destinations in Europe

Retaining the message of its latest advertising campaign ‘Vilnius:amazing wherever you think it is’, Go Vilnius is now cashing on the city’s rating “as one of the safest destinations in Europe with 20 times fewer people infected by coronavirus than in the most-affected European countries.” Travellers coming from 27 European countries will not be subject to 14 days of self-isolation upon arrival in Lithuania, according to a government decision.
