Une installation artistique temporaire pourrait bientôt donner plus de vie à la ville basse de Louvain. Pour une période de transition entre la démolition de l'hôpital Saint-Pierre et le début de la construction d'un nouveau bâtiment pour les arts de la scène en 2024, les autorités souhaitent offrir aux résidents un espace de réunion, d'activités de quartier, d'évènements et de cyclisme.
La ville flamande de Louvain a besoin de nouveaux lieux où de grandes productions pourraient tenir place; où les associations pourraient organiser leurs activités. Un tel espace de rencontre pourrait également stimuler le commerce dans la partie concernée de la ville.
C’est pourquoi les autorités ont décidé d'utiliser l'espace vacant de l'hôpital Saint-Pierre, qui doit être démoli en juin, en combinaison avec l’espace de la Porte romane à proximité et de l'église Predikheren et d'en faire un nouveau lieu culturel.
L'échevin de l'aménagement du territoire et du patrimoine immobilier Carl Devlies a expliqué qu'ils visent un vélodrome, dans l'esprit du championnat du monde sur route qui se tiendra en septembre. Donc, pour réaliser ce projet, Louvain a demandé un permis environnemental temporaire et attend une décision dans les 30 prochains jours.
Le lieu des rencontres et des activités culturelles s'inscrira dans la philosophie du futur bâtiment des arts du spectacle, qui sera construit en 2024. L'échevin de la culture, du tourisme et de l'événementiel Denise Vandevoort explique qu'une installation artistique de type vélodrome sera à la fois attrayante et acceuillante pour diverses sortes d'activités collectives.
« Dès l'autorisation de l'installation, nous donnerons plus de forme au projet et nous pourrons continuer à communiquer à ce sujet. Dans un premier temps, nous regarderons ensemble avec le quartier et les services de loisirs de la ville pour voir ce qui est possible. Nous prévoyons de commencer avec ce projet ce printemps-ci. » a-t-elle précisé.
