Si vous allez à Angers, Nantes ou Metz cette année, vous profiterez des espaces verts les plus larges possibles en France. C'est ce que révèle un classement national des villes les plus vertes de France, présenté par l'Union Nationale des Entreprises du Paysage (Unep), en partenariat avec Hortis (responsable d’espaces nature en ville). Les trois villes les plus vertes de l'édition 2020 du classement sont suivies de près par Amiens et Lyon.
Les villes les plus vertes de France est un palmarès qui regroupe les 50 plus grandes villes de France. Elles ont toutes été analysées entre août et octobre 2019. Plus de 1500 données qualitatives et quantitatives ont été pris en compte et comparés par rapport à 25 indicateurs divisé en 6 catégories: patrimoine vert, investissement en faveur du vert en ville, politiques de préservation de la biodiversité, politique de promotion du patrimoine vert, gestion des déchets verts et dynamisme de la progression. Chaque ville collecte ainsi des points sur une échelle de 100 points.
En conséquence, Angers est sorti en tête avec 86/100, Nantes avec 83,5 et Metz avec 78. Angers est également vainqueur dans la catégorie « Patrimoine vert » tandis que Nantes est meilleur en « Investissement », Lyon en « Biodiversité », Metz en « Promotion » et « Entretien », et Marseille en « Dynamisme ».
Les auteurs mentionnent également plusieurs phénomènes intéressants: l'espace vert moyen par habitant dans les plus grandes villes augmente par rapport à l'édition précédente en 2017 - de 48 kilomètres carrés à 51 et il en va de même du budget moyen par habitant dépensé, mais avec une augmentation plus faible.
Au total, il y a 11 arbres pour 100 habitants en moyenne pour ces villes. De plus, 74% des villes figurant sur la liste tiendraient leurs promesses liées à la végétalisation.
Enfin, la troisième édition du classement révèle, selon les auteurs, que la préservation du patrimoine vert urbain et son développement sont passés au premier rang des priorités politiques de la plupart des villes majeures de France.
