Volar puede ser algo complicado, al menos en cuanto se refiere al ambiente. Por un lado, es un símbolo del progreso tecnológico que hace que el mundo se sienta pequeño y accesible, pero por otro, genera un alto impacto carbónico en el medio ambiente.
Con ese fin, la semana pasada en Barcelona se lanzó la plataforma Avicor, una herramienta en línea que permite a los pasajeros verificar el impacto de la huella de carbono de su próximo vuelo y pagar una contribución que reemplazaría el combustible de queroseno por el llamado combustible de aviación sostenible (SAF). El usuario solo paga la diferencia en costo entre los dos.
El proyecto se puso en marcha con el apoyo de Aena, empresa nacional española encargada de la gestión aeroportuaria, ALA (Asociación de Aerolíneas) y Exolum, empresa líder en logística de productos líquidos, creadora de la plataforma.
Por ahora, el servicio solo estará disponible para los pasajeros que vuelen desde los aeropuertos de Madrid Barajas y El Prat de Barcelona. Todo lo que tienen que hacer es ir al sitio web, escribir su número de vuelo y verán un cálculo de los litros SAF que corresponden por pasajero. Dependerá de ellos decidir cuánto quieren contribuir para que su vuelo sea más ecológico.
A continuación, la empresa garantiza que la cantidad total de biocombustible comprada se entregará al aeropuerto utilizando sus vehículos especializados.
La plataforma representa una idea innovadora y es una clara señal de aliento para aquellos pasajeros con conciencia ambiental que quieren tomar una postura. Hasta ahora, no era posible utilizar un avión sin sentir que se está contribuyendo a dejar una huella de carbono masiva. Pero a partir de ahora, será posible actuar por separado de sus compañeros de viaje que comparten el mismo vuelo.
Sin embargo, los planificadores del proyecto esperan que esto estimule a las personas a aprender más sobre SAF, a saber que es posible hacer que los viajes aéreos sean más sostenibles y hacer algo al respecto, al principio individualmente, pero también, y cada vez más, colectivamente.
Los combustibles de aviación sostenibles se fabrican generalmente a partir de aceites de cocina usados o grasas animales y se informa que pueden reducir las emisiones de CO2 a la atmósfera en un 80%.
