Split holds month-long sports festival featuring free outdoor activities

The Croatian city invites everyone to try something new this May

As of 1 May and until 29 May, the residents and tourists of Split can take part in various outdoor sports activities for free. Organised by the famous trainer Sanja Žuljević and the Split Tourist Board, the WorkOUT Split Fest aims to encourage people to step outside and exercise after staying home during the cold winter months. 

Acknowledging that people are often hesitant to get out of their comfort zone and try something new, the festival’s organisers underline that everyone is invited, regardless of their age or experience. Moreover, they note that all activities will be led by qualified professionals who will make it easier for those who feel uneasy to try new things. 

All activities will take place outdoors, encouraging people to appreciate the arrival of warmer days. The sports one can try out include yoga, Nordic walking, street dance, free climbing, running, and meditation, among others. 

Cleaning while you exercise

Although WorkOUT Split Fest mainly seeks to inspire people to adopt healthier lifestyles, this is not its only goal. Taking this further, the event’s organisers reveal that they wish to raise awareness of the need to take care of our environment. As such, people will have the chance to take part in ‘plogging’. 

Derived from the two Swedish verbs plocka upp (pick up) and jogga (jog), plogging entails picking up litter while jogging. In other words, it is an activity that promotes not only one’s physical well-being but the well-being of the environment. 

It is important to note that the event’s organisers urge all participants – not only those taking part in plogging – to clean up after themselves and ensure that Split remains a clean city. 

“Think globally, act locally is a well-known saying applicable today, more than ever,” the organisers write on the event’s website.
