The City of London Corporation says the savings in energy and maintenance costs will eventually amount to more than 500 000 British Pound annually
The City of London's first lighting strategy, aims to deliver a holistic, creative and smart approach to balance light and darkness and complement the look of historic buildings, improve energy usage and help tackle light pollution in the Square Mile. The objective is to provide the city with the lighting it needs and improve the quality of life for its workers and residents, by avoiding unnecessary light pollution, over-lighting, excessive glare and inconsistencies in lighting design.
The lighting strategy will support the night time economy with safer, more sustainable and inviting streets. The strategy will also consider the critical role that lighting has on crime prevention and reinforcing road safety as well as address the needs of nocturnal animals in gardens and areas along the riverside. The City of London Corporation says the savings in energy and maintenance costs will eventually amount to more than 500 000 British Pound annually.
