Another piece in the overall strategy to reduce tourist flows to the city
Throughout the whole August, residents and guests of the Bulgarian capital will be able to receive a free reader's card for the Sofia Library in their favorite parks and gardens
The sixth edition of Sofia Library's traditional summer campaign to promote reading and attract new readers, "Green Libraries", was launched on 1 August, announced Sofia Municipality. The library will again join residents and guests of Sofia in the gardens and parks of the city.
This year, now locations have been added to the previous sites - the North Park, Lyulin Park - Center and Bankya. Since the beginning of the campaign in 2015, "Green Libraries" has attracted over 5,000 new readers of Sofia Library, and the number of visitors to the initiatives in the parks has exceeded 15,000, added the organizers of the initiative.
This year, for the first time, children and students can participate in attractive entertainment and educational programmes with robots - bees, to learn skills for three-dimensional drawing. They will also have the opportunity to make a stick for soap bubbles with 3D pens and to have fun with the popular Korean games tuho and yut.
In addition, readers will be able to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the mobile library - Bibliobus, filled with over 1500 volumes with the latest hit titles by contemporary and classic Bulgarian and foreign authors. This way, those interested will be able to also choose books to take straight home.
Another piece of good news this year is that for the first time the visitors of "Green Libraries" will be able to see the travelling documentary exhibition with photos from the archives of the Sofia Library "From the Parks of Sofia - Past and Present". It presents the rich history of the "green decoration of the capital" - the parks in which Sofia Library will present its campaign.
In the sixth edition of "Green Libraries" the popular "Shared Books - take, read, return" initiative also makes a return. Visitors will be able to pick up a new book or leave one they've already read in the specially placed areas in the park. Thanks to the initiative, last year Sofia residents donated over 1,200 books.
