Zagreb launches new website dedicated to sports

The Zagreb Tourist Board seeks to position the Croatian city as a sports tourism destination

On 14 September, Zagreb Tourist Board revealed that it has collaborated with the Croatian Olympic Committee to create and unveil a website dedicated to sports. The launch of the new internet site reportedly comes after the great success of the Croatian Olympians and Paralympians in Tokyo.

The sport.infozagreb.hr website will feature content in 6 languages: Croatian, English, French, German, Spanish, and Italian. Therefore, both locals and tourists will be able to make use of the sports website to learn about current and upcoming events and to view a list of sports and recreational facilities in the city. Beyond this, the website offers a historical overview of sports in Croatia and Zagreb in particular.

Unlocking potential for sports tourism

With the launch of the internet site, Zagreb gains more importance as a modern sports city. What is more, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports believes that this new digital development will further boost tourism as sports fans will find it easier to learn about the events in Zagreb. Commenting on this, the Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac stated:

“In organizing numerous sports events, Croatia has proven to be an excellent host, and such events contribute every day to a more complete and diverse tourist offer. With the development of sports tourism, we also contribute to the development of year-round tourism, so I welcome this cooperation between the Zagreb Tourist Board and the Croatian Olympic Committee, which will give tourists, especially sports fans, in one place the opportunity to learn all information about current sporting events and sports.”

Director of Zagreb Tourist Board Martina Bienenfeld echoed Brnjac’s statement as she highlighted that the board is currently working on the development of sports tourism as a special form of tourist offer. Taking this further, Bienenfeld shared that Zagreb has been the host of countless domestic and international sports events and that the city has numerous spaces for professional and recreational sports. For this reason, she believes that Zagreb is well-equipped to strengthen its position as a sports tourism destination.

Aside from the launch of the sport.infozagreb.hr site, the Zagreb Tourist Board and the Croatian Olympic Committee have also recorded a short promotional video in both English and Croatian.
