Students will have the opportunity to work at the faculty's clinics

Free education, meals, and counselling for Ukrainian veterinary students in Zagreb

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Zagreb will help refugees complete their studies

Since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine two weeks ago, around 2 million people have fled the country. European countries and cities immediately proceeded to take action, welcoming refugees, opening reception centres, offering accommodation, donating humanitarian aid, and providing free public transport, among others.

Earlier this week, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Croatian University of Zagreb also took a step towards supporting refugees. More specifically, it announced that it is offering Ukrainian veterinary students the chance to continue their studies for free in either English or Croatian. Alternatively, they can complete parts of their studies at Zagreb's veterinary faculty as part of a student exchange programme.

Besides helping refugees access and continue their education, the faculty will also allow students to complete clinical practice and work at its clinics.

Going beyond education

Understanding that fleeing one’s homeland due to war is a traumatic experience, the University of Zagreb is offering refugees more than the opportunity to continue studying for free. That is to say, it will also provide them with free meals in the form of lunches and dinners at its catering establishments.

Furthermore, it will provide students in need of assistance with both academic and psychological counselling. Those interested in accessing such support can call the faculty's Office for Career Development, Academic and Psychological Counselling on +358 1 2390 330 or email them at ilehpan@vef.unizg.hr

Last but not least, the university will use an individual approach with the students, taking their situation into account when considering absences and solving problems.

Those who would like to continue their studies at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Zagreb must contact the institution using the aforementioned email address.
