Free days will increase from 12 to 20
Free museum days in Italy will increase from 12 to 20 from next year. Many museums will offer entry free of charge and many more will lower their prices - €2 tickets for 18-25 year olds. Many people were disappointed at the plans of ministers to discontinue the free museum Sundays starting from 2019, but this scheme is actually going to be replaced with a much better one now - so far, entry was free only once a month (on every first Sunday of the month) but free days will be increased to 20 which amounts to more free days than previously established.
One argument for the change is that the current scheme creates quite big queues, especially for popular destinations, and people waste a lot of time just waiting in line. The 20 free days that will take effect from next year will be distributed differently depending on the number of visitors. EU citizens under 18 currently can take advantage of a free entry to Italy’s museums, along with students of the humanities.
