Dear Mayors,
Dear friends,
I wanted to be among you tonight to tell you personally how attached I am to Bulgaria and that I have excellent impressions from all my visits to the country. Bulgaria is developing, its cities are becoming more beautiful and offer better services to its residents. But all this is thanks also to the mayors and the local authorities.
A few days ago I saw some of you, and I will repeat what I said then: keep working in the same way for your municipalities and for your citizens. Fulfil your duties with honor and be proud for us at European level. This is why the “Mayor of the Year” contest is useful. In fact, it is an excellent tool that promotes competition between cities in Bulgaria - for better living conditions, better infrastructure and more employment; for prosperous tourism and education, orientation towards the future and health-care for everyone.
I would like to congratulate Mr. Boyan Tomov for the organization of this sixth edition. Thanks to the competition, citizens have the opportunity each year to assess the mayors and their teams. For all of us, this constant relationship is important - it tells us whether we are going in the right direction and where we are wrong. This relationship reflects the ambition shared by all of us - to reduce the distance between us and the rest of the citizens.
Good luck to all!
