La cerimonia per la sesta edizione dei premi "Sindaco dell'anno" in Bulgaria è stata appena inaugurata. Il Presidente del Parlamento europeo, Antonio Tajani, ha inviato un saluto ufficiale per onorare il buono lavoro delle autorità locali bulgare. Lui ha elogiato l'importante trasformazione delle città bulgare, in termini di attrattività e servizi offerti e ha sottolineato l'importanza del concorso "Sindaco dell'anno".

Cari Sindaci,
cari amici,
ho voluto essere tra voi questa sera per dirvi personalmente quanto sono legato alla Bulgaria e che ho ottime impressioni su tutte le mie visite nel paese. La Bulgaria si sta sviluppando, le sue città stanno diventando più belle e offrono servizi migliori ai suoi residenti. Ma tutto questo è grazie anche ai sindaci e alle autorità locali.
Alcuni giorni fa ho visto alcuni di voi, e ripeterò quello che ho detto allora: continuate a lavorare allo stesso modo per i vostri comuni e per i vostri cittadini. Fate i vostri doveri con onore per farci orgogliosi a livello europeo. Questo è il motivo per cui il concorso "Sindaco dell'anno" è utile. In effetti, è uno strumento eccellente che promuove la competizione tra le città in Bulgaria - per migliori condizioni di vita, infrastrutture e più occupazione; per turismo prospero e istruzione, orientamento verso il futuro e assistenza sanitaria per tutti.
Vorrei congratulare Signore Boyan Tomov per l'organizzazione di questa sesta edizione. Grazie alla concorrenza, i cittadini hanno l'opportunità ogni anno di valutare i sindaci e i loro team. Per tutti noi, questa relazione costante è importante – perché ci dice se stiamo andando nella direzione giusta e dove stiamo sbagliando. Questa relazione riflette l'ambizione condivisa da tutti noi: ridurre la distanza tra noi e I cittadini.
