The first smart street in Romania has been completed in the city of Cluj-Napoca, informed Mayor Emil Boc on his Facebook page. Molnar Piuariu street was built with European funding and has all the facilities of a modern, "green" public space, adapted to the current technological and urban mobility realities.
The project was realized through the Regional Operational Program 2014-2020. The aim of the smart initiative is to reduce carbon emissions through investments based on sustainable urban mobility plan. The total value of the project is 5,900,627.28 lei, including VAT (1,218 529,07 euros).
The project includes the section between Fabricii de Zahăr and Dâmboviței streets and the intersection with Teleorman street. Cluj-Napoca City Hall is planning to implement such urban regeneration projects in all neighborhoods of the city, in accordance with its Integrated Urban Development Strategy.

In addition to the spatial reorganization - including the elimination of level differences between the exclusively pedestrian space and the road space - and the mentioned urban endowments, the elements of the urban infrastructure in the area were moved underground. At the same time, the space has been adapted for people with disabilities and their safety (pavements with integrated tactile markings).
